Book Review: Me Before You - Jojo Moyes

On 6th April my friend Taylor sent me a message on WhatsApp. "I just finished the book "Me Before You". You should read it so we can talk about it together."

Now, when someone says get a book and read it, it doesn't take me long to say "ok, let's get started." Fast forward 24hrs (thank you Amazon Prime!) and in my hands was this pretty little (maybe medium sized) book. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
This book has been on my radar for a while, on book blogs, book tube and the like, I had seen the comments and the reviews.
Usually I do not go for "fluffy" literature. Just doesn't float my boat. However, I have been having a bit of a reading slump at the moment so figured this could be the way of getting my reading groove back. Something quick, easy and lighthearted.

Two out of three aint bad!

It was quick. It was easy. It definitely wasn't lighthearted. That isn't a bad thing though.
For being a 'romance' it wasn't too sickly sweet to the point of nausea.

If you haven't heard of it (where have you been?) it's also set to be released as a movie starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones quine) and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games). I'm sure it will be a tearjerking success.

Blurb

Louisa Clark (yep, how perfect is Emilia for the role, she even has the same surname!) has a pretty standard life. She works at her small town cafe, has a fitness fanatic boyfriend and lives with her chaotic family.
All that changes when her life is turned on its head. Finding herself jobless and without direction she applies for a job as a carer for a local gentleman in the town's castle estate. Expecting an old man, her employer happens to be the handsome Will Traynor! Not what she was expecting at all. A victim of a motorbike accident Will has given up on life, totally dependent on his family and carers he has lost his zest for adventure. Then Louisa arrives and the rest they say is history.

This book is the perfect holiday read. It will have you laughing, crying and pondering the bigger questions in life. It will definitely make you think about what you have and how your life could change in an instant. It's uplifting and heart-wrenching all at the same time.

I would recommend it if you enjoy a bit of soppiness, but not too much. Those who love rom-coms will love it! Some of the characters are annoying, but not enough for you to hate them. Everyone has flaws after all.

There's also a sequel to MBY called After You. I've yet to decide if I will read it or not. Is it worth it book bloggers? Would love your thoughts.

Have you read this book? What did you think?!?!

xoxo
